Located at Nara Prefecture, Soni Kogen Heights (曽爾高原), one of the Japan’s most spectacular attractions. It is another wonderful place for a short getaway from the busy metropolis or another satisfactory place for your family’s or school’s bonding trip! Let’s find out why!
…” Soni’s Sun Village, which is surrounded by mountains and abundant greeneries, making it a perfect place for plenty of outdoor activities…”
It is an approximately two-hour drive by car from central Osaka to Soni’s Sun Village, which is surrounded by mountains and abundant greeneries, making it a perfect place for plenty of outdoor activities. There is a considerably huge campsite for all the camping lovers. Camping at Sun Village is a relatively enjoyable activity as the campsite is well equipped with a shared cooking area, dishwashing area and bathrooms. In addition, you can also rent camping necessaries from the management building. For example: sleeping bags, towels, utensils, cooking pans, rice cookers, barbeque grills, heaters, fans and so on. Camping will never be a hassle again!

…” There are a total of 14 cottages in the village, of which, 9 cottages can accommodate a maximum of 5 people, with the rest of the cottages being able to accommodate 4 to 8 people…”
For those who want to enjoy a little bit of luxury within the natural compound, you can also consider renting a cottage. There are a total of 14 cottages in the village, of which, 9 cottages can accommodate a maximum of 5 people, with the rest of the cottages being able to accommodate 4 to 8 people. I particularly like the cottages as it is totally made up of wooden blocks. This architecture complements well with the greenery surrounding it. Even though the cottages are small, they are fully furnished with a television, air-conditioner, kitchen, dishware, refrigerator, hot water bathtub, and futons.

Wondering what you can do there? Most of the people are doing what the Japanese love: Barbeque!! From morning until night, you will barely see the charcoals stop burning from the grill! Meanwhile, if you feel like shaking off all the “unnecessary calories” that you have just consumed from the barbeque, you can rent a tennis court in the village.
…” One of the most remarkable attractions in Soni is definitely Okame no Yu onsen (温泉), a natural hotspring that can rejuvenate and refresh you! …”
I’m pretty sure you would be feeling tired after a whole day of fun! Well, Soni Village will never let you end your day with exhaustion. One of the most remarkable attractions in Soni is definitely Okame no Yu onsen (温泉), a natural hotspring that can rejuvenate and refresh you! This hotsping has been awarded as one of the best onsen in Japan for 3 years in a row from 2011 to 2013; it was also voted as one of the most popular natural onsens in Japan.

After experiencing the hotspring myself, I have no doubt to all the honors given! Why? The most important reason is definitely the minerals present in the hot spring. The spring water contains high levels of sodium bicarbonate salt, which makes the water alkaline (pH 8.6). This salt can remove the sebaceous layer on your body surface, which helps to smoothen your skin. This type of hotspring has an honored name – “water for the beautiful skin”. The locals believe that it can alleviate chronic skin conditions and also good for blood circulation. After immersing yourself in the well, your skin will magically become smooth and soft immediately! It seems like bathing in a well full of body lotion or better!
There is only one big hotspring well outdoor, which is surrounded by a bamboo forest. The temperature of the water is maintained at 46.3C with a low osmotic pressure. I personally think that having the hotspring outdoor will make the whole experience more pleasant and enjoyable. The cold surrounding temperature will just make you not want to remove yourself from the well!! (Please bear in mind that if you feel dizziness, refrain yourself from staying in the hotspring any longer, move to a colder area and cool yourself down!). Finally, you can call it a day after a relaxing bath! (On a side note, I felt like I was rewarded a whole new body and my insomnia was solved that day!)
…” Soni Kogen has open swaths of Japanese pampas grass (or also referred to as silver grass) that blanket the landscape, earning it a good reputation for picturesque scenery …”
On the next morning, please, do not rush home. You will regret if you do so! It is claimed to be one of the most beautiful and spectacular attractions in Japan, Soni Kogen Height is a good place for hiking and sightseeing. Soni Kogen has open swaths of Japanese pampas grass (or also referred to as silver grass) that blanket the landscape, earning it a good reputation for picturesque scenery. During summer, it is a breeding season for bullfrogs. So you can hear a lot of croaking in a swamp and the rustling of pampas grass rustles in the wind. (At that moment, time seemed to stop ticking and my soul and body seemed to be cleansed by the Mother Nature!)

The beauty isn’t just going to end here. If you follow the hiking trail to the top of the mountain, you will enjoy an astonishing panorama view of Nara and Mie Prefectures. The height of the mountain is about 400m, not a tough job to climb up as the path is laddered and paved. The whole journey may take you about 2 hours to finish.

With the blessing from the nature, you can now pack your happiness and pleasure to go home! It will definitely be a mesmerizing journey that you will never ever forget!
